To promote a program of recreation and education for all persons of all ages. Stimulate the desire of each member to be better citizens and work for the good of all people in the community.

East Side Youth Center Facts

  • We are a totally non-discrimate organization! We welcome everyone!
  • Organization started in 1955 with a recognized positive reputation in the community we serve
  • ESYC is a Federal IRS 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. (Federal EIN # 23-2277154)
  • Approximately 15,000 families with 25,000 youth participants over 61 years
  • One outdoor athletic field
  • Two indoor gymnasiums
  • Wrestling Room; Learning Center; Fitness Room; Community Room for meetings, parties and showers.
  • Large Social Hall for Bingo and major events
  • Most sport participants come from low and middle-income families
  • Primary community is racially and ethnically diverse (48% Latino, 12% Black)
  • Community-based facilities with programming for youth & adults


  • Five primary youth sports (650 youth participants plus 100 coaches and program leaders in 2015-16)
    • Basketball --------- 300 boys and girls from grades K-9, Winter and summer teams in LV area leagues.
    • Baseball ------------ 75 boys and girls ages 6-13 for T-Ball and Allentown leagues
    • Football ------------- 150 athletes in varied weight classifications in a Lehigh Valley area league
    • Cheerleading ----- 50 girls cheer for football, wrestling, and basketball events
    • Wrestling ----------- 75 athletes from grade K-6 compete in a LV wrestling league and tournaments

      • Adult Bingo Games (Sun & Wed 7pm)
      • Advanced Sport - ESYC Elite AAU Basketball
      • Site for Allentown Youth mentoring site
      • Adult Recreation - basketball and volleyball groups

      • Gym time for youth clubs and AAU sports teams
      • Martial Arts offered by a fully qualified trainer
      • Host site for many athletic tournaments throughout year
      • ESYC social events and fundraisers
      • Meetings and clinics for youth sports referees and umpires
      • Health Fair site for senior citizens (PA Reps)
      • Facility use for community drum / bugle corps
      • Site for annual flu shots for seniors
      • Community involvement and voting location, speakers, etc.
      • Support site for local schools and churches
      • Civil Service test site for Allentown Policemen / Firemen
      • Dieruff Alumni Association reunion socials
      • Site for professional certification testing (eg. Engineers)

East Side Youth Center Philosophy

  • Participation far outweighs the importance of winning
  • Mandatory playing time is in-place for all athletes in all sports for all games played
  • All-volunteer coaching staff; background checks are required for all coaches.
  • Accept athletes from any location (except where youth league rules prohibit)
  • Sports standards (guidelines published for the acceptable behavior of all athletes)
  • Coaching standards (guidelines published for the acceptable behavior and leadership)
  • Reasonable sport fees ($35 per sport; or $60 for all-sport pass in 2016; $120 per family; hardship waivers)
  • Mandatory fundraising ($40 per sport) is required for all sports participants
